Location:
Moshav Shechenya is located not far from the junction of routes 781
and 784. Drive south on 784 from Route 85 - the turn off is right before
Karmiel (as you come from Haifa). Go past Misgav and follow signs for
Koranit/Shechenya/Manof. You can also reach the moshav from Route 70
at the Evlayim Junction, by turning onto 781 heading east, and then
follow the signs from Moreshet to Koranit/Shechenya/Manof.
When you reach Shechenya, enter the yellow gate and make an immediate
left turn. The restaurant is the first building on the left (though
there is a gorgeous view from the end of this little road!). Park on
the side of the road or in the lot up ahead on the left.
The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. Take advantage of the
outdoor seating if you can, otherwise, you will enjoy the nice, pleasant
atmosphere indoors as well.
About The Twins Restaurant:
Ah,
Beirut! Back in the days when Beirut was the 'Paris of the Middle East',
the Jews of Lebanon were a wonderful, unique community of some 10,000
people. Israel today is blessed with the culinary talents of Mishleen
and Maiyee, the twin girls who had grown up there. They have been involved
with catering and cooking for more than 20 years.
Lebanese Kosher cooking is quite different than other Middle Eastern
kosher cuisine. The main difference is in the spice mixture used in
many of the dishes. The twins use black and white pepper, cinnamon and
two other 'sweet' spices (like nutmeg). This spice mixture enhances
various dishes in different ways, accenting the items in a very unique
fashion and making all of them extraordinarily flavorful. If it is of
interest, you can do some research about the Lebanese Jewish community
(dating from the time of the Second Temple) and Lebanese Kosher cooking.
The Twins restaurant is Israel's only kosher authentic Lebanese restaurant!
The cuisine is meat, but they have dairy and parve take-away (each prepared
in completely separate kitchens). In addition, groups may make reservations
and order dairy or parve for sit down service as well. A group can be
as small as a family gathering of 12 people but they can accommodate
up to 85 people indoors and 150 outside.
Menu:
The menu items are all named for Lebanese towns. It is very nice to
see these names in a most positive context! The day my wife, baby and
I ate there, Red Lentil was the soup of the day. All three of us loved
it and made 'all gone'!
The Twins has a nice choice of appetizers, some more traditional than
others, but all delicious. There are two types of superbly spiced Lebanese-style
Kubeh (one with Meat and one with Mushrooms), Empanadas, Muwarek (stuffed
with pine nuts and meat), Zatar 'Pizza', Patosh Salad with fresh mixed
vegetables. There are are also many types of salads and so many unique
spices and flavors, you will be tempted to try them all! We were impressed
with items like the sweet and sour eggplant and potato with somek.
My wife ordered the Sanin for her main course. She simply has no words
to describe this incredibly tasty chicken dish. The chicken is baked
in a delicious pomegranate and walnut sauce, a unique sweet and sour
mixture. They also have various meat and rice stuffed veggies; Casteleta
(baked veal in a lemony sauce), Tanjeen-styled stews (eggplant, okra
or bean cooked with or without meat), and more. They easily cater to
families and children's options as part of the standard fare on the
menu.
Be sure to save room for dessert. One specialty is the Jazareya made
from carrots, pumpkin and mastic (a hard gummy substance which is heated,
melted and blended with the carrots and pumpkin) and served with pistachio
nuts. They also have sorbets (big servings and delicious - three flavors:
cassis, pistachio and chocolate), traditional Lebanese cookies, and
mousse.
Try This:
The Twins offer a business lunch for 45NIS from noon until 2pm, but
an even better option is the full meal deal for only 85NIS. Trust me.
Anyone living or touring around the Galil must make a stop to eat here
(or at the very least, stop by to pick up some carry out items).
