September 2024
We have been dining at Roza Restaurant in Modiin since it opened in 2017. Roza is my grandchildren's top pick in Modiin, their home town. When asked "would you like to go to Roza for lunch" they are in the car before we finish the question. And I understand why.
Roza is a "heimish" comfortable restaurant. A variety of tables, booths, and large round tables accommodate every size party. There is a full meat menu, great service and reasonable prices (though the bill is not their concern). This is an excellent venue for dining with your partner or with the family. Roza is also an excellent place to host your party of up to 150 guests.
Not only are the meat dishes delicious, the restaurant has the highest level of kashrut. Roza is the only meat restaurant in Modiin under the hashgacha of the Badatz Mehadrin.
Roza is a classic meat restaurant with a good selection of meat starters and main dishes.
A meal could not start better than with Savta Ziva's cigars filled with meat and pistachio and served with techina. My crowd likes to start their meal with soup, but there is a long list of starters for serious foodies. Sashimi for example, and fish tartar are favorite starters for connoisseurs as is the liver pate.
Most of the starters are meat-based.
Diners preferring non-meat options will enjoy the Roza salads. Most are meat-free, but there is also a chicken salad that makes a light main course. Roza also offers a vegetarian Beyond Meat burger. Vegetarian and vegan options are marked on the menu.

Skip right down to the main course menu, where meat is king. Meat is sourced from Ramat Hagolan and is aged at the restaurant between 21 and 48 days. The Entrecote and the beef fillet are the Roza signature dishes, though we have been quite happy with the burgers and other menu items. The main menu also offers salmon fillet, whole Levrak (striped bass), and gnocchi.
The service at the restaurant has been criticized in the digital media. Our experience was just the opposite. There is
lot of well-managed staff. They are always walking between the tables and it is easy to catch someone to bring out something missing. The waiters were polite and professional, as one would expect in a quality restaurant.

Our Lunch at Roza
"Anyone want to go to lunch at Roza?"
Our son was working at home, and our grandson had just come home from university. It seemed like a good opportunity to get together for some good food.
"Sounds good. We'll meet you there at noon."
Roza is a good choice for a family meal. There is parking in a large lot in front of the restaurant. The entrance is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible. A pleasant waitress showed us to a booth for 4. Perfect.
The business lunch is available from 12 noon to 5:30pm, or you can order from the full menu, which is available all day. The business lunch includes a starter for the price of your main course. The starters included are from a list of basic choices. These can be upgraded to one of their higher-end starters with the addition of several shekels. We were quite happy with the 79-shekel lunch menu and basic starters, but note that Roza offers several specialty starters.
My grandson and I each started with the tomato soup, the soup of day. The soup was warm, thick, and tasted homemade. My grandson was quite satisfied, but I like my food a bit spicier.
My wife chose the eggplant Baladi as her starter, which came as a whole roasted eggplant with tahini, a tasty vegetarian all-natural dish, just the kind of dish that my wife likes. A non-meat eater will find their way at Roza, but the restaurant is really a temple of meat.
For our main dishes, my son and I each chose a burger with fries and our grandson chose the focaccia with asado. This focaccia came with lots of crumbled slow-cooked meat on top and a round pizza cutter to slice it with. The more meat the better, as far as he is concerned. We were all impressed with how attractive and appetizing, this dish appeared, and the yingele was happy.
The staff at Roza is one of the things that makes Roza a stand-out restaurant. When we placed our order, the staff was very careful about specifying how well done each diner wanted their meat. I appreciated this, because as opposed to most, I like my meat medium rare. My son and grandson prefer meat that is so well done, it could be a karban.
All of the foods came out of the kitchen promptly and simultaneously after the starters were finished, There was very little waiting between courses. The burgers were quite good and filling. I had a glass of Polaner beer from the tap, which was cool and refreshing.
Dessert! Nice to be young and not concern yourself with your A1C. We shared two deserts. The young man chose a pistachio tart which he liked but was too sweet for the rest of us. The second dessert was a concoction of sesame cookies and halva. Both came with non-dairy vanilla ice cream, which was a decent approximation of the real thing.
Roza is an excellent venue for parties. It is popular for daytime britot and evening sheva brachot. On our visit a large crowd had gathered for a brit mila, held on the opposite side of a divider. It was a bit noisy, which is to be expected, but it did not impact on the service.
Roza is a popular restaurant that is always busy. It is best to reserve a place in advance.
