Wine: Barons
Edmond
and Benjamin Rothschild, 1999 Haut Medoc
Type: Dry Red
All
my friends in the States who only drink Kosher wines rave about
this wine. Even some non-Kosher wine drinkers recommend it.
In fact, this dry red Haut Medoc 1999 is the absolute rage of
the moment.
But
prepare yourself. This is a varietal wine. This is not a Cabernet
or a Merlot, there is an important difference. Varietal wines
are a combination of several locally grown grapes. It is very
good. But a big dry red it is not.
I
enjoyed the wine very much, appreciating its soft and mellow
tastes. However, it was most disappointing in that it cannot
be compared to anything from Israel or California.
This
wine will age very well and needs to sit. I would bet that in
a year it will be far superior to even what it is now, gain
more body and substance.
