Vineyard:
Dalton
Wine: Reserve
Cabernet Sauvignon 1998
Type: Very Dry Red
This is the best wine of the season.
I would even go as far as saying that the Dalton, Reserved Cabernet
Sauvignon '98 is the best Israeli wine I have tasted in quite
a few years. This wine's only competition is the Barkan '96
and that comes in a far second. This wine is almost as good
as the Golan '90 and '93 series - and they were the best wines,
so far, to come out of Israel. This cabernet sauvignon surpasses
all of them because of its price, 75 NIS. A mere $17 for one
of the best wines you can find on a kosher wine list anywhere.
The
wine itself is a beautiful deep red in color. It leaves a smooth,
slightly fruity, slightly fragrant taste in the mouth. It goes
down ever so smoothly. It makes me smile.
Dalton
has chosen not to put too many of these precious bottles of
wine out on the market at once in hope of pushing up the demand.
Their ploy has worked. Most shops don't even have it and those
who do only get 6 bottles at a time. Shout and scream. Insist
on getting this wine before the price doubles, as it already
has in certain boutique shops and before it wins an award that
will certainly raise its price.
One
of the great skills of Dalton is that they have figured out
how to make a superior, enjoyable wine immediately upon release
from the vineyard. This Cabernet wine will only improve with
age and by next year it may be legendary.
Note:
A "Reserved" wine is a higher, more exclusive vineyard label.
Although the vintner intends for these wine to of higher quality,
it does not, always, however, translate into a better tasting
wine. More expensive, yes. Better tasting, not always.
