Bardak Pizza Bar & Beer
April 2024
"If it aint broke don't fix it."
So said Gedalya when he took over Bardak Pizza Bar & Beer in 2022. The restaurant had been running for about a decade and its popularity had not faded. So, Gedalya picked up where the restaurant left off, added some ideas of his own, and reopened everyone's favorite restaurant.
Bardak Bar & Beer is a good time eatery where you can relax with friends. Sit inside or outside on the spacious patio and enjoy great beer, fabulous pizza, cool music and a warm Jerusalem atmosphere.
About The Beer
Bardak carries over 30 types of beer, 6 on tap and 24 in bottles, from Israeli boutique breweries and breweries around the world,
Here is some of the beer that you will find at Bardak. There is something for everyone with different degrees of sweetness, bitterness and alcohol content. They are most proud of the large offering of Israeli boutique beers.
You may have run into Jem’s Pils or Wheat beer, but have you tried Shapira Pale Ale or their Wheat beer? Both are available on tap here, by the glass or by the pitcher.
How about Emek Haela Tripel Belgian, at 9.2% alcohol? There are IPA beers, a bit more bitter due to extra hops in the brew. And of course there are international brands that are favorites everywhere in Israel, like Guiness, which you can compare to the Israeli dark beers (from Negev and Shapira), Stella and Leffe (my favorites) and Corona
There is a category of fruity brews too, in the cider family, like Lindeman’s Apple or Peach, or Kastel Rouge, with a cherry taste.
About The Pizza
Along with the seemingly endless variety of beer, Bardak offers a seemingly endless variety of pizza. All of the pizza types are named for neighborhoods in Jerusalem. I wonder, I asked myself, how they chose the names. Give that a think.
Old City is pizza with roasted eggplant and four cheeses. Machne Yehuda is sabich pizza with eggplant and hardboiled egg. Kiryat Yovel has alfredo sauce, smoked salmon and roast zucchini. All the pizzas are made with the secret house cheese mix, and many are made with the house sauce.
The pizza menu groups the pies in five categories, plus a kiddie menu. The categories help you decide between cheesy (Cheese and Goodies), cheesy with vegetables (Jerusalem), Spicy, cheese with fish (Barracuda), and just plain wild (The Crazy Chef). We had the Givat Mordechai pizza, with alfredo sauce, garlic, sweet potato, mushrooms and a little goat cheese. The personal size made a nice snack for the two of us. The kiddie menu is based on the classic margherita pizza with extra toppings, or not.
Don't be overwhelmed. If you are undecided, choose the pizza named for your neighborhood. All are delicious and made only with the freshest cheeses.
Those who prefer a salad can choose from the variety of salads named for parks in the city. Gan Ha'vradm salad contains mixed greens, tomatoes, red onions with mozzarella cheese and a balsamic dressing. Gan Ha'paamon contains bell-like mushrooms sprouts, almonds, berries and kashkeval cheese with a lemon/olive oil dressing. Bardak salad has garden vegetables, roasted zucchini, toasted nuts, almonds and goat cheese. And there is no telling why they call this one Gan Ha'atzmaut.
Dessert at Bardak is unique. In the spirit of the restaurant, they offer Chocobar a sweet pizza with of Chocolate and Mascarpone cheese with your choice of sweet toppings.
