Vineyard:
Carmel
Wine: Semillion Late Harvest 1998
Type: Sweet White
This
is the best of the sweet white wines to hit the kosher wine market. Only
1000 of these bottles were produced and they are well worth the price.
This
wine is made by slowly pressing late harvest grapes, so late that they
are nearly raisins growing on the vine. After harvest, these grapes are
pressed for 12 hours. One and a half tons of grapes can produce only
600 liters of juice. And that makes just enough for 1,000 bottles of
a very special and distinctive wine. The wine is aged for only 4 weeks,
contains 14.8% alcohol, 20% sugar and no brandy at all.
Everything
about this sweet white wine is unique. Even their bottles, at 375 ml
each, are smaller than the average dessert wine bottle.
This
wine is more complex and distinctive than any of the other sweet, white
wines I have tasted. A dessert wine, this Semillon Late Harvest has all
the components of any great wine. A definite treat to be enjoyed at special
times and with special people.
