Vineyard:
Galil Mountain
Wine: Cabernet Sauvignon 2000
Type: Dry Red
The
Galil Mountain vineyard is a new venture. This Cabernet Sauvignon
is grown and produced through the efforts of Kibbutz Yiron and
The Golan Vineyards. As of now, the Golan winery is marketing
the wine, but I am told that soon, the kibbutz will split off
on its own. This Cabernet Sauvignon is actually, completely,
100% cabernet sauvignon grapes.
This
Galil Mountain is not at all diluted with merlot grapes as is
the common practice among cabs that are produced in Israel.
The result is a very full-bodied wine.
The
red color of this wine is rich and deep. The aroma is robust
and very impressive. The taste is surprisingly soft and delicate
for an Israeli cabernet. Especially so because this wine has
hardly been aged at all.
All
the grapes are grown in the northern Galil, hence the vineyard's
name. For a first effort, this wine succeeds very well.
