Vineyard:
Gush Etzion
Wine: Sauvignon Blanc, 1997
Type: Dry White
Organic
Gush
Etzion is a very interesting winery.
From
the health point of view, their wines are produced without any pesticides,
chemicals or insecticides. From the religious point of view, the grapes
are grown by halachically observant Jews and the wine is produced by
Shomer Shabbat vintners. While it has no direct bearing on the kashrut
of wine, it is exceptionally unusual to have totally observant Jews in
all facets of the wine production - from beginning to end.
Most
white wines sold in Israel today are light and fruity and classified
as semi dry. Even Israeli dry whites are fruity. This Sauvignon Blanc
is a refreshing change.
The
wine itself is full of body. Some might say too much body. But I liked
it very much.
While
it is expensive for the value, this wine is worthwhile tasting. The Gush
Etzion vineyard is worth watching.
