Vineyard:
Vecchio Podere
Wine: Cabernet Del Veneto, 2000
Type: Dry Red
In
my pursuit of decent, enjoyable and still inexpensive wines,
I discovered this new import to Israel. The Cabernet as well
as the Merlot are
real finds for the price. This wine goes for under 30 NIS. Any
drinkable fun wine for that price is a must buy!
The
wine is not a true Cabernet, it is a blend, like so many other
Italian wines. But they called it Cabernet to appeal to the
Israeli consumer. This Vecchio Podere is composed of 70% cabernet
grapes and then blended with sangiovese and merlot grapes and
maybe even something else that I cannot make out.
The
label is stately and attractive and the Kashrut is impeccable,
certified by the rabbis of Milan as well as the Chief Rabbinate
of Israel.
But
it is the taste that is most worthwhile. This Cabernet Del Veneto
2000 is a light, pleasant, Italian red wine that goes well with
cheese or chicken or fish. And of course, pasta.
The
aroma is light and fruity with a strong sense of berry. The
taste lingers as would a far superior wine.
I do not believe that this wine will store well or age well.
This is a wine to be consumed immediately.
